Elton Dean

Elton Dean was the saxophonist of Bluesology, the group that Reginald Kenneth Dwight was also a member of in the mid-sixties. When Reg decided to change his name, he took part of Elton Dean's name and part of Long John Baldry's name to become Elton John. The rest, as they say, is history.

Elton Dean went on in the music business, recording albums with many musicians over the years. He mainly produces jazz music, and was a member of Soft Machine. He's released his first album on his own not too long ago.

Sadly, Elton Dean died on February 7, 2006 of heart failure in a London hospital. He was 60 years old.
